Triple Dog Dare | Spinning Class

by Carole Hicks on January 12, 2010

I thrive in community…I think most of us do. It’s no secret I am in love with Twitter. It’s like I belong to a village and someone is always awake and available 24/7.

There have been times in my life when I’ve felt terribly alone. In this season of life I often feel terribly alone…starting my own business BY MYSELF…cheering my husband on from the sidelines as he studies to get his Masters’ Degree. It gets downright depressing sometimes. However, I’m finding that starting my day with serious cardio…spinning class specifically…releases the yummiest endorphines and I then go sailing through my day. But my body doesn’t always want to leave the comfort and warmth to brave the cold to drive to the gym. Therefore I typically have an argument with mySELF every morning and it is often a struggle to get going. I’ve found the social via Social Media — my Twitter Community/Family.

Typically, I post something like “Will someone PLEEEEEZE double dog dare me to go to spinning class?!” The replies are heart-warming:

We are Family.

We are Family.

And, by the way, YES! I did make it to spin class this morning.

Collaboration – Chris Celek – Walking the Talk

When I heard Chris Brogan (co-author of “Trust Agents”) speak at SummitUp conference 2009 in Dayton, Ohio, he said words that absolutely resonated deep within me: “Mass communication is dead but Collaboration is alive and well.” That is my paraphrase, so it might be slightly off.

As I make preparations for our monthly New Media Dayton meetup at The Pub (The Greene / Beavercreek location) I’m once again reminded that without others stepping forward and volunteering to help, there is no way I can pull this off. I want to shine the spotlight for a minute on one of the behind-the-scenes people who I am so grateful to: Chris Celek. The tweet below is one he sent me via DM, so it wasn’t in public stream. That’s the kind of guy he is. Not drawing attention to himself, but helping others. He is creating one heck of a fan in me. Please seek him out on Twitter and give him props.
